Tolga Fikret Tözüm

Dr. Tozum graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Dentistry, Ankara, Turkey with Top Student Award in 1998. He completed his integrated post-graduate clinical education in periodontics and PhD training about bone metabolism at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey and University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, U.S.A. in 2002. He has been teaching, researching and practicing about advanced periodontics and implant dentistry since 2002, and affiliated as Professor of Periodontology in 2012. He received three international awards in implant dentistry, including Travel Award from International Association for Dental Research Continental European Division Meeting in 2004; Platinum Award at World Congress of International Congress of Oral Implantologists in 2006; and Best Article published at ACTA Odontologica Scandinavia in 2009. He has published 12 book chapters, more than 100 scientific manuscripts in international journals, more than 50 oral/poster presentations and he lectured more than 50 times as a keynote/invited speaker in international scientific meetings related to periodontics and implant dentistry. He serves in 21 implant dentistry and periodontology related international journals as an editorial board member. He still works at Department of Periodontics, College of Dentistry, University of Illinois at Chicago.

 Implant Surgeries and Periodontology: Today and Tomorrow
Implant dentistry is a globally known treatment option for partially and totally edentulous patients as well as oral-maxillofacial subjects. The importance of teamwork should be considered for increasing the success rate of our treatments. Different dental specialties have significant importance in the management of implant patient. Periodontology is one of these, and the practitioner should be aware of the contemporary knowledge related to periodontology to have an effective outcome. The present lecture will focus on implant surgery treatment planning including a wide range of surgical procedures, will inform about the periodontal evidence related to implant dentistry, and will further discuss about the possible surgical treatment options.
